Chikamatsu gave an oral presentation titled “Preparation of bismuth oxyfluoride single crystal thin films and their room temperature multiferroic properties” at the 48th Annual Conference on MAGNETICS in Japan held at Akita University.

M1 Nakano and M1 Hagiwara gave oral presentations and M2 Kamigaito and M2 Sano gave poster presentations at The 85th JSAP Autumn Meeting 2024 at Toki Messe in Niigata City.

The paper on cation control in double-perovskite cobaltate films has been published in J. Mater. Chem. C. This is the result of joint research with Hokkaido University and RIKEN. “Cation-placement control in double-perovskite GdBaCo2O6 and its impact on magnetism via spin-state modification”

The paper on large tensile-strained barium titanate films has been published in CrystEngComm. This is the result of joint research with Hokkaido University. “Large tensile-strained BaTiO3 films grown on a lattice-mismatched La-doped BaSnO3 bottom electrode“

The collaborative research project “Development of room temperature multiferroic oxyfluoride thin films”, in which Chikamatsu is the principal investigator and is collaborating with Prof. Katayama of Hokkaido University, was awarded the 6th Materials and Devices Joint Research Award.

Chikamatsu gave an invited talk titled “Development of room temperature multiferroic oxyfluoride thin films” at the 12th Materials and Devices Joint Research Center Activity Report Meeting held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology Ookayama Campus in Tokyo.

Chikamatsu gave an invited talk titled “Bismuth iron oxyfluoride thin films prepared by topochemical reaction and their room temperature multiferroic properties” at The 14th Industry-Academia Collaboration Subcommittee of the Fluorine Chemistry Society of Japan held at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo.

Chikamatsu gave a special lecture entitled “Modulation of Physical Properties of Transition Metal Oxide Thin Films by Fluorine Doping” at the graduate course “The World of Science from Physics 1” held at Katsushika Campus, Tokyo University of Science.

M2 Kamigaito, M2 Sano, M1 Nakano, and M1 Hagiwara gave poster presentations and Chikamatsu gave a special lecture on diversity at the 2024 Kanto Branch Conference of the Japan Society of Vacuum and Surface Science at Waseda University.

Miori Kishi, a new fourth-year student in the Department of Chemistry, and Lan Yao, a research student, have been assigned as members for the fiscal year 2024. I look forward to working with them.
